In August, 1915, 3rd London were part of the Dehra Dun Brigade, Meerut Division of the Indian Corps, serving in France and between 16th and 27th August they were holding the line in trenches at Rue du Bacquerot near Laventie. The battalion diary entry for 26th August, 1915 mentions only one man being wounded early in the morning whilst on a working party so there is no information concerning the death of Sergeant Kimber, who was killed in action on this day. However, whilst most records show his date of death as being 26th August, the Graves Registration Report has it recorded as 28th August 1915 when 3rd London moved into trenches in front of Neuve Chapelle. His burial place at R.E. Farm Cemetery in Belgium offers no further explanation.
